P.F. Cuttin - Genuine Tape #39
Crack open this classic from the Brooklyn producer and mixtape legend's cassette catalog.
When we made our way up to Shade 45 to promote Do Remember! back in November, 2023, we were pleasantly surprised to see P.F. Cuttin sitting in the studio to join us on the guest panel alongside Kid Capri and The Hoodies.
Because not only was P.F. one-half of Blahzay Blahzay and the producer behind their timeless ‘90s hip-hop anthem “Danger,” he was also a prolific mixtape DJ who dropped dozens of tapes through the ‘90s, and was a mainstay on Tape Kingz release lists.
As we continue on with our 50 TAPES posts, it’s fitting that our 39th tape is P.F. Cuttin’s Genuine Tape #39. And trust, this was not even planned purposely. Sometimes shit like this just happens by coincidence and the stars align.
As for the actual music on the tape, well, get ready to head back to the first half of ‘97. P.F. sets the tone with his own Cuttin-crafted remix of CNN’s anthemic “T.O.N.Y.” single, which is followed by a precise mix of hot tracks featuring the dopest rap artists in New York and beyond of the time, including Buckshot, Redman, KRS-One, Jeru, Ras Kass, and more. It’s an overload of gems and heavy on the fire collabos, too. “Metal Thangz,” “Know Da Game”—there are too many to keep calling out, but just take a closer look at the tracklist below and you’ll see what we mean.
You’re always in good hands with a P.F. Cuttin tape. And he’s still at it too with his EastNYRadio show, dropping new mixes every week filled with the finest underground hip-hop. Check for those HERE. And for the collectors out there, cop the double CD edition of Genuine Tape #39 HERE.
Nuff respect to P.F. Cuttin.
