Was Queens the blend tape capital of NYC? You can certainly make an argument that it was based off the work of Q-borough legends like Grandmaster Vic and Doggtime. Shit, even Queens mixtape DJs like Clue, Envy, and Whoo Kid who were mostly known for exclusives got busy with the blends. The Dream Team, too.
But if you’re looking to seal the deal with this argument, you absolutely have to mention Mista Rello & Jadel. The Queens blendmasters were quite prolific during NYC’s mixtape golden era, and this In It For Life tape is particularly ill—especially if you’re a fan of all-hip-hop blends.
Whether they’re throwing “T.O.N.Y.” vocals over the “Ill Street Blues” instrumental or pairing up “Mighty Healthy” with “It’s Murda,” Mista Rello & Jadel keep both sides of the tape poppin’ with rap blends that demand heavy replay. Check the tracklist, and then pound that play button at the bottom of the post.
Shout to Mista Rello & Jadel, and all the Queens mixtape DJs out there who always came correct with the blends. And look for the movie poster-inspired In It For Life cover inside “The Artwork” chapter of Do Remember! along with an interview with the cover’s designer, NOJO.
